citelayer® addresses a practical WordPress task: publish machine-readable content and find out when the expected response or collection stops working. The product has evolved, and the current focus is agent readiness and local evidence.

The work the free plugin handles

Supported schema and Markdown make content easier to request in useful formats. Endpoint diagnosis checks the public response against generated output. Local bot matches and AI referrals show different kinds of observed activity. WordPress abilities let an authorized client read the same data without copying it from the dashboard.

Why diagnosis matters

Saved settings do not guarantee a correct public response. A static file, SEO generator, selective plugin loader, cache or server rule can intervene. Checking the actual route gives you a specific problem to fix rather than treating a high score as proof that every system sees your page.

A smaller role for llms.txt

The plugin continues to offer the proposed index convention because it is a useful optional surface to configure and diagnose. It is no longer part of the dashboard score. It is not sold as a citation shortcut.

Where the store add-ons fit

WooCommerce Pro adds a documented REST commerce contract with exposure rules, signed draft carts, checkout lifecycle and order reads. EDD Pro focuses on digital-product schema, download discovery and cart/payment handoff. The buyer completes payment in the store; the two add-ons are not interchangeable.

Use observations that answer the question

Check technical readiness with endpoint responses. Inspect matching crawler requests to understand local activity. Inspect recognized referrals to see some human arrivals. Measure real citations and commercial outcomes separately. The plugin does not promise ranking, citation or sales gains.
